Presence

Two things happened in the same day.

First, I read an aritcle about Google Glass and the experience of augmented reality.  They are at the same time an example of profound innovation and terrifying implications for our world.

Second, I had a beautiful interaction with Emily.  She was lying on her activity gym while I was occupied in the kitchen.  She started crying, so I went in to pick her up or figure out whatever might be wrong.  As soon as I leaned over her, our eyes met, she smiled as wide as I'd ever seen her, and gave a nice little giggle(ish).  It was as though nothing could have delighted her more than simply being with me.

Sometimes babies give you the most poignant glimpse into God's heart.  I've spent most of my life attempting to do enough or be enough for God.  Yet there I was with my heart breaking open with joy and love at the way that Emily delighted in my presence with her.  How much more is God's delight when I am simply present with Him?
